Average time to read: 2 minutes

I have just published another six chapters of my book Inside Citrix the FlexCast Management Architecture. Youโ€™ll find the links in this article. Iโ€™d also like to share my plan on publishing the other chapters and the book as a whole (in PDF format) within the next couple of months.

Itโ€™s more work than you might think

Even though I have all 28 chapters in digital format (word and Kindle) it takes a lot more time to get them online than initially anticipated. For one, WordPress mixes up the format and layout, which takes time to fix, and it’s something that has to beย done manually. I try to re-read most chapters just to see if I can spot any spelling errors, of which there are plenty still. I used TIFF images for my paperback, something WordPress does not support. Instead, I have converted almost all images to PNG format using Snagit.

Next, all images need to be uploaded, sized and placed correctly, and so on. The same goes for most of the text. Copying and pasting it from a word document isnโ€™t ideal. Next to the changeย in format and layout like I already mentioned, the text needs to be carved up into smaller sections/paragraphs as well, most of the time anyway.

I have my sponsor logoโ€™s, URL’s that need to open in a separate window, navigation buttons to get from one chapter to another, back and forth, and the list basically goes on. All straightforward to fix and implement, but when you put it all together it takes time and effort to get everything to look and feel consistent.

Go here for chapter 13 and take it from there. Or start here to take it from the top.ย

Anyway, while these six chapters are now publicly available Iโ€™ve already started on the next few chapters so I will (again) be good to go not too long from now. Iโ€™m thinking Iโ€™ll do four chapters in the next run, another four after that, and while Iโ€™m at it Iโ€™ll include the two appendixes (A and B) as well, basically making it six. After that, the whole book will be available online.

Working on a final version

Every time I publish a chapter, or multiple on basvankaam.com I create a PDF version as well, for you guys to download. Right after I add that same chapter to a word document, which, when finished will be turned into a final PDF document, including anย interactive Table of Contents (ToC), hopefully. I donโ€™t have an exact time-frame on all this but Iโ€™m hoping to get it done before Citrix Synergy in May (2019). Thatโ€™s it for now, expect the next four chapters within a two to three weeks from now, give or take a couple of days.

Lorem Ipsum has been the industrys standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown prmontserrat took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged.
