You might have heard about something called Project VRC, or Project Virtual Reality Check, in full. The results of this independent and truly unique survey will provide us with many new insights into the usage of desktop virtualization and related technologies around the world. Last year over 1300 people participated, you can download the full 2013 / 2014 report here, and this year we (Ruben Spruijt en Jeroen van de Kamp) would like to repeat this survey to see how our industry has changed and to take a look at the future of VDI and SBC in 2015. To give you an idea on how they are doing, Iโve summarized the results up till now (also published on Twitter). Some interesting results so far, still over two weeks to go though.
The more the merrier
It goes without saying that the total number of participants will eventually have a huge impact on the final outcome, the more responses they gather the more detailed the results will be. So again I would like to invite you to participate. It will only take a few minutes, itโs fun to do and in the end it will provide you with a fair overview on whatโs going in the desktop and app virtualization market today including some future insights. Youโll find answers to questions like: what type of hardware is used, the true impact of (hyper) converged infrastructures, how VDI scales compared to Terminal Server, which anti virus is most popular, why DaaS might be attractive to companies, the most popular EUM solutions used today, GPUโs, type of Hypervisor used, the reasons why customers choose VDI, which vendor comes out on top, and a lot, lot moreโฆ
Go here to fill in the survey โState of the VDI and SBC union 2015โ it closes on February 15th.
The success of the survey will be determined by the amount of the responses, but also by the quality of these responses. This led Project VRC to the conclusion that they should stay away from giving away iPads or other price draws for survey participants. Instead, they opted for the following strategy: only survey participants will receive the exclusive overview report with all results immediately after the survey closes.
Still in preview
Remember that everting I show you here is still a preview, the survey will be live till the 15th of February so don’t forget to drop of your two cents. At this pointย I don’t have any information with regards to how many people participated, so I don’t haveย any numbers, and even if would have, I probably would’t tell you any way ;-)ย So without further ado, here are some of the current standings, I’ll let the graphics do the talking from here on.ย Stay tuned for some of the final results (I will have a few scoops) expected near the end of February. Let’s get a bit more specific…
So, do you see any interesting, or unexpected, developments? Of course a lot can still change in two weeks time, but I think this already gives us a nice overview on what’s being used and implemented today and what companies think of or are interested inย for future use within the wondrous world of VDI and SBC. Still plenty of room for innovation with regards to (hyper) converged infrastructures, GPU / video acceleration technology and application delivery in general if you ask me. Again, this only shows part of the survey, the final report will include a lot more overviews and information, I just though it would be nice idea to sum up what has been login on so far. According to Ruben (Twitter) about 55% of the participants is EU based and 40% is North America, just so you know.
