Today (13-06-2015) Mick (Glover) and I will present on FMA Power management here at the E2EVC conference in Berlin. If you are in the audience, we would like to thank you very much for attending and hopefully you’ll like what we have to tell and show you. On a more personal note I’d like to thank my co-presenter Mick for taking the time, not only here in Berlin, but also leading up to the event while preparing our slides and content, I know how crazy busy you guys are over at Citrix, thanks Mick. We also have a small community announcement coming up, the FMA Internals Co-op. Read on to learn more.

Picking a topic

To start, how did we pick our topic and why did we choose FMA Power Management? We spoke about this a few months ago and we thought it might be a good idea to pick a subject that isn’t that well known, or at least that is how it seemed.

Of course it had to be FMA related, but that still left us with dozens of interesting topics to choose from. We first thought about doing something on DSC, but then we noticed that there already was a DSC orientated session on the agenda here at E2E this weekend, it’s by Ian Brighton in room 2 from 16:35 till 17:15.

We also didn’t want to do a session on persistent vs. non-persistent, VDI vs. virtual or physical vs. virtual etc. These subjects are all well known within the industry and have been very professionally covered and discussed in the past and present. So we thought we’d take a different approach and pick a topic, which, besides not that well known, doesn’t seem to be that popular either (which has its reasons i’m sure). Indeed, I’m talking about FMA power management.

It’s not for everybody

At first power management can seem complicated, or at least not that straightforward. And even once you know the basics it still takes some consideration and smart thinking with regards to planning and implementing. However, in some cases, no, not all, it can also provide you with several advantages, which, one implemented, are relatively straightforward to manage. I mean, just having a look hasn’t hurt anybody right?

So the idea behind our session is more geared towards providing our audience with an overview on power management in general, the inner workings, terminology involved, some of the pros and cons, things to be aware of, tips and tricks, including some NDA roadmap information on things to come.

And we are not saying it’s one of the best features ever or that as of now everybody needs to start using power management, no, just have a look and listen, that’s all.

If time permits I’ll write a separate blogpost on some of the topics we discuss during the presentation, bare with me though. For now make sure to check out our slide deck below. Although this way you will miss out on some of our awesome text and slide transitions :) it will give you an overall impression on what we talked about. Questions? Let us know. I did have to remove one slide which contained some NDA info, I guess you just had to there. See you in Lisbon coming November.

As for the community announcement I mentioned earlier, The FMA Internals…

gjdFqLMT-small-9As of today, Saturday the 13th of June 2015, Mick Glover and I are proud to present the FMA Internals Co-op. A co-operation between a seasoned Citrix veteran and an established community blogger and Citrix enthusiast. Which is sort of a unique combination as far as we know.

Although it is a relatively small announcement, it holds great potential as far as we are concerned. And besides that it keeps us on our toes, it’s good fun and our contribution to the community!

Together we will work on an extended series of FMA related blog posts and presentations. We will try to co-host when and wherever possible, but we are also realistic and know that this will probably be limited to once or twice a year. And that’s ok.

However, the blog series is another story. Interconnected as we are nowadays it’s easy to exchange thoughts, have a look at each other’s work, share experiences, potential interesting topics and who knows what we come up with. So we might surprise you.

Read the full announcement here.

Thank you very much for reading and attending!
